The operating principles behind climate companies that scale.

Repairing our ecosystems requires turning climate technology into climate infrastructure. The winners will be regenerative business models with superior unit economics, deployed at scale, displacing incumbent systems entirely.

I commit my career building towards that outcome. My edge is execution - helping portfolio companies translate breakthrough technology into repeatable growth: clear positioning, efficient customer acquisition, and scalable revenue systems that match the urgency of the problem.

01

The breakthrough is rarely the bottleneck.

Effective technology "wipes out the previous way of doing things." That's the goal. But a breakthrough sitting inside a company that can't hire fast enough, can't convert pipeline, and can't scale its internal workflows doesn't wipe out anything. The operating infrastructure is what converts scientific advantage into market displacement.

02

Founder-dependent systems are a ceiling, not a foundation.

When the founder is the hiring process, the sales process, and the onboarding process, growth is bounded by founder hours. Climate tech founders should be focused on the physics problems — the matter, energy, time, and space wins that create real advantage. The job of a portfolio operator is to build systems that work without founder involvement.

03

Speed of hire is a strategic variable.

Eleven days versus eleven weeks is not a logistics difference. It changes which talent you can access, how quickly you respond to market conditions, and how much revenue opportunity you leave between the decision and the start date. For companies trying to displace incumbent industries, the window matters.

04

Superior unit economics extend to operations, not just product.

A company with a technically superior product but expensive, slow, and fragile internal systems is not a durable business. Operating efficiency compounds the same way product advantage does.

05

Portfolio playbooks are the real leverage.

Solving a problem once is useful. Solving it across twelve companies is compounding. The systems built inside Reef — sourcing, screening, onboarding, performance management, AI workflows — were designed to be decomposable into playbooks and redeployed. That's what makes the difference between a consulting engagement and a portfolio-wide operating system.

06

It's going to take different thinking.

The same hiring playbooks, GTM assumptions, and workflow defaults that work in enterprise software don't apply to a company commercialising a hardware breakthrough in industrial biotech or grid-scale energy storage. Pattern recognition across diverse contexts is what makes a portfolio operator useful rather than just another generic consultant.

“The systems built inside one company become the playbooks that compound across twelve. That’s what portfolio operations is for.”

Funds backing companies that make humanity a net positive to nature — that’s the operating context this work was built for. If your portfolio companies are hitting operating ceilings, book a session.
